Nabb Center Hosts Land Research Workshop Jan. 11, 18, 21

SALISBURY, MD---Do you own an old house?  Find out who lived there long ago. Dr. Edward Otter hosts “Researching the Land,” a workshop at the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History  and Culture at Salisbury University, 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays, January 11, 18 and 25. The three-part course gives instruction on how to research land records. Each session discusses a new topic useful when researching genealogy  as well. The first session is an introduction to deeds and other papers used in land record research. With Otter’s assistance and guidance, participants perform research projects and continue their research between classes. At the second session, problems encountered during the research process are discussed. Issues vary from project to project.  By the third session projects are well advanced. Additional problems are addressed and questions answered.  By the end of the third session most issues encountered in this type of research are covered. “Participants should understand the basic methods and pitfalls of land research and be able to continue their work without assistance,” said Rebecca Miller, Director of the Nabb Research Center. Otter is an archeologist with more than 25 years experience. Much of the work he does involves researching the history of particular tracts of land back to the original patent. The cost is $60, $50 for students and Nabb members. Class size is limited to 15 participants. Proceeds benefit outreach programs at the Nabb Research Center. To make reservations or for more information call 410-543-6312 or visit the Nabb Research Center Web site at nabbhistory.salisbury.edu.
