Gilchrest Hosts Global Warming Forum Tuesday, October 26

SALISBURY, MD---U.S. Representative Wayne T. Gilchrest (R-MD-1) speaks on the regional dangers of global warming 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, in Holloway Hall Auditorium at Salisbury University. A screening of the documentary We Are All Smith Islanders, a ground-breaking film by the Chesapeake Climate Action Network about the dangers and solutions associated with global warming in the bay region, follows. Written and directed by journalist Mike Tidwell, who will be present with Gilchrest, and filmmaker Mark Cohen, the documentary begins with a description of how climate change is already endangering the very existence of watermen in villages on Smith Island, the last remaining inhabited island in Maryland's portion of the Chesapeake Bay. The film also documents how global warming is presently affecting agriculture, wildlife, health and tourism in the region and how this crisis could deepen without immediate action. Also highlighted are clean-energy solutions available in the region that may help slow and perhaps ultimately help stop global warming. A question-and-answer session with Gilchrest and Tidwell follows the film. Co-sponsored by the SU College Republicans, the event is free and the public is invited.
