"Nursing Commission Presents Findings April 26" †

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury State University Department of Nursing hosts the statewide Governor’s Commission on the Crisis in Nursing on Thursday, April 26, from 10 a.m.Ė2:30 p.m. in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.  Free and open to the public, the meeting will present findings of the Commission’s four subcommittees on recruitment, retention, education and workplace issues.   

Members of the Commission, created by the Maryland General Assembly in Spring 2000 in response to the serious shortage of registered nurses, are Dr. George C. Benjamin, chair, secretary of health and mental hygiene for the State of Maryland, Senators Joan Carter-Conway and Paula Hollinger and Delegates Marilyn Goldwater and Adrienne Mandel, all registered nurses; local members SSU alumnae Karen Poisker, vice president for patient care services at Peninsula Regional Medical Center; and Jane Flowers, director of peri-operative education at PRMC; and others from nearly all aspects of health care including, public and occupational health, rehabilitation, long term care, school health, emergency and critical care, surgical services, oncology, home care, psychiatric/mental health, military nursing as well as nurse educators and administrators.
