"Spring Literary Festival Continues April 9"

SALISBURY, MD---Award-winning poet and Chinese immigrant Li-Young Lee reads from his works, many reflecting his immigrant life and childhood flight from Indonesia, on Monday, April 9, at 8 p.m. in the Montgomery Room of the Commons at Salisbury State University.

Lee PosterThe event is part of the Writers-on-the-Shore Spring Literary Festival. Admission is free and the public is invited. A reception follows.

The Harvard Book Review, Georgia Book Review and Choice have all praised Lee's works.

"He is surely among the finest young poets alive," wrote the American Poetry Review.

Author of several volumes of poetry, Lee has been the recipient of a Fellowship in Creative Writing from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation.

His books include The City in Which I Loved You (BOA Editions 1990) and Rose (BOA Editions 1987).

"Explosive and earthy poems by an audacious and passionate poet-traveler who takes great chances in verse that is colloquial and metaphysical at the same time," wrote the New York Times Book Review about the work of poetry that was listed in its list of Notable books of 1991.

His newest book, The Winged Seed (Ruminator Books 1999) also has earned critical success. It is a tale of childhood of exile and his father's imprisonment while living in Communist China.

Lee's reading is sponsored by the English Department, Multiethnic Student Services, Fulton School Visiting Speaker and Artist Fund, Mid-Atlantic Review and the departments of Communication Arts, History, Political Science and Sociology.
