"Diamond Jubilee Gala Culminates 75th Anniversary Celebration"

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury State University culminates its 75th  anniversary year celebration with a Diamond Jubilee Gala on the evening of Saturday, June 2, on campus.

The University is honoring three members of the campus community who have provided singular distinction and service to the University:  agribusinessman and philanthropist Franklin P. Perdue, who endowed the Perdue School of Business in 1986 with a multimillion dollar gift; SSU’s  longest tenured faculty member, Professor Emeritus Jessie L. Fleming, who taught music and music education at Salisbury State for 45 years; and staunch supporter of education, Del. Norman H. Conway (D, District 38), a 1965 graduate of Salisbury State who has represented the Lower Eastern Shore in the Maryland General Assembly since 1987.

Gala EggThe black tie gala also features gourmet dining, entertainment by the acclaimed Doc Scantlin and His Imperial Palms Orchestra and an array of spectacular auction and raffle items.  Among the items is a one-of-a-kind SSU 75th Anniversary decorative egg evening bag designed by Mitzi Perdue.

All proceeds from the gala benefit the Shore Scholars Program of the Salisbury State University Foundation Inc.  This scholarship fund provides tuition support exclusively for students graduating from Eastern Shore high schools who are attending SSU.

The Diamond Jubilee Gala caps off a year-long celebration by the University of its founding in 1925.  The fall featured FUNDay, a day-long community open house and  the conference Chesapeake 2000: The Chesapeake Bay  in the Year 2000,  and the spring promises an array of nationally renown speakers headlined by journalism icon Daniel Schorr and A Service Odyssey, a weeklong public service commitment by the campus community.  The University is striving to bring the citizens of the region in closer contact with the myriad resources available to them at SSU.

Tickets for the Diamond Jubilee Gala are $100 per person.  For reservations please call 410-543-6176.
