For SSU, Kiplinger’s is the third major national ranking this year. The U.S. News and World Report 2001 Annual Guide to America’s Best Colleges ranked Salisbury State among the top 10 public universities in the North. The Princeton Review also included SSU in The Best 331 Colleges 2001 edition.

The Kiplinger’s ranking looked at selectivity (the schools most in demand by strong students) including SATs and admissions rates, graduation and retention rates, computer and library resources, costs, and financial aid availability, among others.Salisbury ranked just above the University of Arizona (#82) as a best value. It also came out ahead of such campuses as Rowan University (#96) and Towson (#100).

The Kiplinger’s rating was seeking out quality and value--"schools where students can graduate with a high-caliber education but without a mortgage-size debt," said the magazine.

The bulk of the data came from Wintergreen-Orchard House, which collects statistics each year from over 1,800 North American colleges and universities.
