DiGiovanna Developing Internet Education Modules

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Augustine G. DiGiovanna, professor of Biology in the Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology at Salisbury State University, recently spent several days at the University of New England in Maine serving as a consultant. DiGiovanna helped initiate development of Web-based courses in gerontology for the Maine Gerontology and Geriatric Education Center (MG/GEC), headquartered at the University of New England.

As a result, DiGiovanna is now under contract with MG/GEC and will be working this year on developing two Internet-based educational modules on the biology of aging. Each module will provide teaching and learning activities equivalent to three hours of class time plus homework. The modules will become part of MMG/GEC’s university-level distance education courses for gerontology students throughout Maine.

DiGiovanna teaches a course at SSU, Biology of Human Aging (BIOL 219). The course will be offered again in spring 2001 and is based on the second edition of DiGiovanna’s text on aging, Human Aging: Biological Perspectives. His book is in SSU’s Blackwell Library, and is available at the SSU Book Rack.
