ESIAT 'Teaching and Learning' Symposium is Friday, April 16

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Foundation and Psychology Department co-sponsor the Eastern Shore Institute for the Advancement of Thinking’s 2004 Symposium, “Teaching and Learning in the Era of the Brain,” Friday, April 16, at the Salisbury School on Hobbs Road.

David Ghoogasian, education consultant/trainer and school improvement facilitator keynotes the symposium. A former principal, Ghoogasian is a member of the Gifted and Talented Education and Professional Teaching certificate program advisory boards at University of California, Irvine. His areas of emphasis are: classroom application of brain research, learning styles, multiple intelligence theory and differentiated instruction. He teaches and trains through his own company, The Lyccum, UCI, University of California, Riverside, and California State University. He recently received the Distinguished Instructor Award from the UCI Education Extension.

Other speakers at the ESIAT Symposium ’04 are: Anne Ashe, supervisor of K-12 mathematics in Wicomico County; Bonnie Ennis, K-8 mathematics coordinator for Wicomico County; Ellie Ennis, K-8 mathematics professional development coach for Wicomico County; Dr. W. Corry Larson, assistant professor of education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore; Dr. Jennifer Kelly-Suttka, a licensed psychologist with Coastal Psychology and Educational Associates, LLC; Bonnie Walston, interim director of special education in Wicomico County; and Susan Cormier, Evelyn Jones and Amanda Markos, reading professional development coaches in Wicomico County.

Established in 1994, ESIAT is a consortium of public and private schools and organizations with the mission of advancing education for thinking in the Lower Eastern Shore. Other sponsors include: the Salisbury School, Salisbury University, Somerset County Schools, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Wicomico County Schools, Worcester County Preparatory School, Worcester County Schools and Wor-Wic Community College.

Registration for the symposium is $40, which includes the cost of materials, reception, and dinner. ESIAT members and students receive discounted prices at $35 and $10 respectively. The program is from 3-8 p.m. at the Upper School. Space is limited.
