SSU's Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu Awarded "Roll of Distinction
SALISBURY, MD--Salisbury State UniversityÍs Maryland Gamma chapter of Pi Gamma Mu, the international honor society of the social sciences, was recently notified that it had been awarded the honor of Roll of Distinction. The Roll of Distinction is the highest honor to be bestowed upon a chapter based on its annual chapter activities and community service in competition with the other chapters on an international basis.
Maryland Gamma chapter was organized in 1982 and was officially chartered in 1983. Since its inception it has sponsored fund-raising events to send students to national and regional conferences, as well as to sponsor lectures and speakers of interest. Social responsibility and social service are two of its major concerns.
Some of the chapterÍs civic and social activities have included the tutoring of students, the collection of non-perishable foods for the Food for the Joseph House, the adoption of a couple of families for Christmas and other programs.
Academically, within the past 10 years, the Maryland Gamma chapter has been fortunate to have had three students win international scholarships. Those students were Nathaniel (Nate) Graff, Suzanne Pfuhl and Karen Gordy Payne. The chapter has also won other national awards and honors.
