'From the Artist's Hand II' Hangs September 2-19

SALISBURY, MD---Works from husband-and-wife artists Rick Schneider and Nikki Vahle-Schneider are highlighted in Salisbury University’s annual Art Department faculty exhibit “From the Artist’s Hand II” Thursday-Sunday, September 2-19, in the University Gallery at Fulton Hall. An opening reception is 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 2. “Collectively, the works traverse considerable territory in the fine and graphic arts and exemplify the personal artistic interests of the faculty,” said Edward Brown, coordinator of the exhibit. “Some works are based on classical traditions while others are made using more unconventional materials and approaches to art making.” As the newest Art Department faculty, Schneider heads SU’s glass program while Vahle-Schneider teaches printmaking and principles of color. With M.F.A.s from the University of Wisconsin—Madison, the artistic couple has exhibited at the ARC Gallery in Chicago and Ferrin Gallery in Boulder, CO. Individually, Schneider has exhibited at the 1708 gallery in Richmond, VA, and Vahle-Schneider has exhibited at the Irma Stern Museum in Capetown, South Africa, among others. The exhibit also includes works from Jeanne Anderton, Gary Brotman, Marie Cavallaro, Paul Flexner, Carl Goldhagen, James Hill, Marjorie Hill, Jinchul Kim, Sally Molenda, Margo Nolan, Pamela Olszewski, Dean Peterson, Brooke Rogers, Clytie Taylor, Frank Wright and Brown. Pieces include paintings, sculpture, ceramics, photography, mixed media and digital prints. The gallery is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and from noon-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Sponsored by the SU Art Department and Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, the exhibit and opening reception are free and the public is invited.
