Up-and-coming guitarist Jaan Rannik has been receiving acclaim for his beautiful tone and exciting interpretations from judges in recent competitions. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, he gave his orchestral debut as a soloist with the Charleston County School of the Arts at age 15, performing Vivaldi's concerto in D. The next year, at the age of 16, Jaan began studying with Marc Regnier at the College of Charleston. Later that year, he placed third in the high school division of the South Carolina Guitar Competition.

In 2007, Jaan received his Bachelor of Music degree from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, under the tutelage of world-renowned teacher and performer Julian Gray. During that time, he performed in master classes with internationally distinguished guitarists such as Pepe Romero, William Kanengiser, Raphäella Smits, Richard Stone, Ray Chester, and Manuel Barrueco. He is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree at the Peabody Conservatory, where he has been awarded a Peabody Scholarship and the position of Graduate Assistant to Julian Gray.

In the spring and summer of 2009, he took top prizes in solo competitions in Montreal, Canada and Greenville, North Carolina. Jaan also plays in a duo with acclaimed guitarist Mark Edwards.

In addition to performing, Jaan maintains an active teaching schedule and as a faculty member of the International School of Music in Bethesda.
