Marking the opening of the new Nabb Exhibit Gallery, enjoy a dramatic photographic exhibit of Smith Island photographs guest curated by Barbara Bohrer. The exhibit provides a graphic portrayal of the importance of the Chesapeake waters to the island communities, especially Smith Island. Vintage photographs provide an evocative view of a disappearing way of life.

Discover a unique gathering of crow carvings and sculpture interpreted by a blend of science, art history and folklore. Long associated with scary stories and dark superstitions, crows and their corvid kin, which include ravens, jays and magpies, are actually intelligent, social and innovative. Their abilities to learn, remember and use insight to solve problems have earned them a place in human literature and mythology. This exhibit brings art, nature and culture together in a celebration of these fascinating birds.

Organized by Katharine T. Carter & Associates, the exhibit features four nationally acclaimed women artists who use various body marking techniques in their works to symbolize religious, magical or aesthetic significance. In her Muscle Movement Series II-IV (Range of Motion), Kaethe Kauffman strives to make the invisible visible. Tina Blondells portraits depict contemporary women from historical, folkloric and mythological perspectives. Giedre Montvila creates exquisitely rendered drawings in colored pencil using imagery culled from cosmetic and fashion advertising. Eileen Senner makes drawings inspired by ancient Greek vases and their silhouetted figures.

Long Islands extensive coastline, barrier beach and salt marches host a variety of water systems that attract an equally wide variety of ducks, geese and shorebirds. Long Island decoy carvers have used many types of materials, including cork from old life preservers and wood from fence posts. This exhibit features a sampling of brant, duck, goose and shorebird forms, as well as an assortment of the regions unusual confidence decoys.

Unique gifts and collectables from all over the world are available for purchase. Most items are procured directly from artists or member organizations of the Fair Trade Federation. These organizations purchase products directly from families and cooperatives in Latin America and Africa. Regional artists once again offer signed/numbered prints, stained glass designs, original paintings as well as cards, photographs and hand-made jewelry.
