Cliff Burden
Class of 2010
Music
Cliff Burden graduated in May 2010 from
Salisbury University with a BA in Music. He is currently working
towards his Masters Degree in Music Theory at Texas State
University. He plans to continue his education in pursuit of a
PhD which will help him achieve his goal of teaching at a higher
level.
Amy Bejm Syversen
Class of 2004
Music Education
Amy Bejm Syversen is currently in her seventh year of teaching
instrumental music. Mrs. Syversen is the band director at both
West Friendship and Dayton Oaks Elementary Schools in Howard
County, Maryland where she teaches the beginning bands, advanced
bands and the Dayton Oaks and West Friendship combined jazz
band. Mrs. Syversen also teaches private trumpet students
throughout Howard County and is a trumpet performer in both the
"Bayside Brass Quintet" and "The Annapolis Wind Symphony."
After graduating in 2004 from Salisbury University with her
undergraduate degree, Mrs. Syversen attened the Peabody
Institute of the Johns Hopkins University for her Master's of
Music Education degree. Mrs. Syversen graduated with her
Master's of Music Education in 2009. While at Salisbury
University, Mrs. Syversen was president of her local MENC: The
National Association for Music Education Chapter 416, as well as
principal trumpet for the University's Wind Ensemble. While
attending Salisbury University, Mrs. Syversen was awarded the
Presidential Scholarship, Hope Scholarship, Nettie C. Bentley
Scholarship, Guerrieri University Center Award for Music, Who’s
Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges,
Achievement Key Award, (NAIBM): MENC National Instrumental
Teacher Grant, entrance into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor
Society, and consistent Dean's List member.
Currently, Mrs. Syversen focuses her free time by teaching
private trumpet students in Howard County, knitting and long
distance running. Mrs. Syversen’s trumpet students have been
members of the Maryland All-State Bands as well as the Middle
School and Elementary School Honor Bands throughout Howard
County, MD. In addition to teaching privately, Mrs. Syversen
performs for churches and wedding ceremonies as a freelance
musician. Mrs. Syversen has been a team leader for the People to
People Student Ambassador Program and was guest conductor for
the Middle School All-Shore Band in 2007.
