Karen has taught many violin and piano students over the years. Her background includes graduating Cum Laude from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Music. She was Assistant Concertmaster of the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra and was a rotating Concertmaster in the Brigham Young of the Brigham Young University Chamber Orchestra. She also served as Principal Second Violin in the Philharmonic. Since then, she has been a member of the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra, Concertmaster of the Aberdeen (South Dakota) Chamber Orchestra, and a professional recording artist at Osmond and other recording studios. Most recently, Karen played with the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra (1997 to 2011). She served as Assistant Concertmaster from 2001-2009 and as Concertmaster for the 2003-2004. Honors she has received include the String Performance Award at BYU, 1st place at the Utah County Competition, Senior Division, and 3rd Place at the Utah Symphony State Competition, Senior Division.
Karen has played piano for many years, and initially majored in both violin and piano. As a high school senior, she and her sister performed a joint piano recital. She has played piano for her church’s children’s worship service for the last 4 years and organ at several different church worship services. She accompanied the Jr. High school choirs for 5 years while living in Gainesville, Georgia.
