Following a one-year hiatus, Salisbury University welcomed back the Maryland Summer Center for the Fine and Performing Arts July 3-16.
Some 120 talented middle and high school students from across the state dedicated two weeks of their summer to this residential program, which offers classes in orchestra, musical theatre performance, acting, digital video production and visual arts, including drawing, painting, glass making, silk screening and printmaking.
In addition to daily classes and workshops in their chosen discipline, students enjoyed field trips to such cultural sites as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the American Visionary Museum. To further enhance the learning experience, SU welcomed several guest artists, including Japanese dance expert Shizumi, musical group Cantaré: Fiesta! A Celebration of Life in Latin America and physical comic Dan Kamin.
The Summer Center is sponsored by individual donors, Salisbury University and the National Endowment for the Arts, in association with the Maryland State Department of Education.
