Department of Mathematics & Computer Science

Holloway Hall

Welcome!

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has adopted the tetrahedron as a symbol representing the different facets of the mathematical sciences and the unity of the whole.  Majors are introduced to mathematics through a core of courses that touch on the four areas in the tetrahedron:  pure mathematics, applied mathematics, computer science, and statistics.

As members of the mathematical community, our majors work in partnership with dedicated faculty and fellow students to learn and become successful in their chosen fields.

WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY ABOUT US

Because of the knowledge I received from the Math and Computer Science Department at SSU, I landed a job as a software engineer at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) working on a project that maintains and launches the Space Shuttle.  The experience I received through classes, projects such as Center for Applied Mathematics (CAMS), and internships, gave me the competitive edge at KSC.
   -David Barrineau '98

I thank the Mathematics Department at SSU for helping me develop confidence.
