GRADUATE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Middle School Mathematics and a Master of Science in Mathematics Education. Both programs have been supported by the NSF- and MHEC-funded ADEPT* project.  Both programs are intended for graduates of teacher education programs with an interest in teaching mathematics.  Neither program provides certification to teach.

• Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Middle School Mathematics (CMSM)
  This MHEC-approved diploma is awarded upon completion of an advanced program of study for those already certified to teach or those working towards certification to teach who are interested in teaching mathematics in middle school. The CMSM program consists of four hands-on pedagogically innovative mathematics content courses.

• Masters of Science in Mathematics Education (MSME).
  The MSME is intended for those who currently hold teaching certification. It has two tracks, one in middle school mathematics, and another in high school mathematics. The program includes education requirements, but unlike the M.Ed., it is based on mathematics content, and its electives allow participants to take up to six mathematics content courses. Those interested in the middle school track may either have an undergraduate major in education or mathematics. Those interested in the secondary school track should have an undergraduate major in mathematics.
