Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Middle School
Mathematics (CMSM)
The CMSM is a certificate in middle-school mathematics. This
certificate is designed for school personnel seeking advanced study in
mathematics content appropriate for teaching mathematics at the middle-school
level. Neither an undergraduate major or minor in mathematics is required
for admission to this certificate program. This MHEC-approved certificate
is awarded upon completion of an approved program of study consisting of
hands-on pedagogically innovative mathematics content courses.
Note: This certificate is not a teaching certificate. The awarding of
this CMSM certificate does not carry certification to teach.
The requirements for the CMSM are listed in the
CMSM checklist.

Here are the steps to follow to be admitted to the certificate program:
-
Apply for admission to graduate study by submitting a completed Application
for Graduate Program Admission, with the application fee, to the Office of
Admissions. On that application, under "INTENDED PLAN OF STUDY," be
sure to check the box for Math - Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in
Middle School Mathematics. The application for admission is
available at

-
Have official transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions from EVERY
college and university attended.
-
If you are seeking in-state tuition, submit a completed Residency/Domicile
Information form to the Office of Admissions. That form is also
available on the Office of Admissions' web site.

-
When you have been admitted for graduate study, the Mathematics and
Computer Science Department will send you a checklist for the CMSM
certificate and you will be assigned an advisor who will help you plan your
course of study.
-
You may contact the department regarding the CMSM at Department of
Mathematics & Computer Science, Graduate Study, Salisbury University, 1101

Upon approaching completion of the CMSM program, here are some steps to
follow:
-
Students admitted and matriculated into a graduate program must complete at
least one SU graduate course in each calendar year (including fall, winter,
spring, and summer terms) to maintain their admitted status. Students
who fail to meet that requirement and wish to re-enter the graduate program
must request to be reactivated through the Registrar's Office.
-
Be aware that it is the responsibility of the individual graduate student
to check with his/her faculty advisor to make sure that all certificate
requirements have been fulfilled.
