WebCT Course Descriptions

In order to receive a WebCT account and course space, SU faculty and staff must attend the WebCT Course Quick Beginnings workshop.  Faculty new to a course management system are encouraged to attend the Introduction workshop and experience WebCT from the student's point of view.

WCTI 100: Introduction to WebCT

In the Introduction class you will learn what WebCT is and what WebCT can offer you.  You will learn how WebCT has been designed to enhance your instruction through the use of the WebCT educational tools for communication, collaboration, evaluation, course management and more.  Experience the WebCT environment as a student as you browse through a WebCT course, post messages in a discussion, take a quiz and view your grade online.

WCTI 105: WebCT Course Quick Beginnings

Course Quick Beginnings, is the basis for all other WebCT workshops.  In this workshop you will work with a WebCT template that contains the most common tools (i.e. syllabus, calendar, discussions) to begin your WebCT course.  Additionally, familiarize yourself with the WebCT Control Panel, which is the primary utility to design your entire course. Finally, learn how to create, manage, and restore a backup of your WebCT course.  Faculty are encouraged to bring a electronic version of their course syllabus to the workshop.

WCTC 100: WebCT Content Management: Content Pages & Modules

This workshop in the Content Management series focuses on adding course content online.  Lecture notes, study guides and supplemental material all fall within content pages and modules.  Learn how to control when and the duration the content is available to students.  

WCTC 110: WebCT Content Management: Assignments & Student Groups

Learn how to create student assignment activities that students complete, submit and are graded within WebCT.  Also, establish public or private student groups for cooperative learning projects and provide them with the space to compile and present their final results. 

WCTC 115: WebCT Content Management: Including PowerPoint into WebCT

Have a PowerPoint presentation that you would like to incorporate into WebCT.  Learn different ways on how to present the presentation to you students.  Additionally, you will learn how to compress files and then upload, uncompress and manage files within WebCT.  

WCTC 135: WebCT Content Management: Enhancing Content Modules

Enhance your content module pages by providing students with additional links on the Action Bar to various resources.  Possible resources include:

  • Learning goals related to the course content
  • Glossary to supplement learning of key terms and ideas
  • Links to additional internal and external web resources
  • Reference citations related to the course content
  • Links to Self Tests & Quizzes directly related to the content
WCTC 140: WebCT Content Management: Multimedia & WebCT

Learn how to incorporate graphics, audio, video and information on a CD-ROM into your WebCT course and content modules.  Sample files will be provided.  However, faculty are encouraged to bring images, audio, video and textbook CD-ROMs in digital format to the workshop.

WCTT 100: WebCT Communication and Collaboration Tools: Discussions

If your instructional objective is to introduce or increase communication between you and your students, this is one in a series of two classes for you.  Learn how to create and manage discussion topics, lock discussion areas based on course time frames, create and manage topic messages, search topics for content and more.

WCTT 105: WebCT Communication and Collaboration Tools: Email & Chat

This workshop in the series of WebCT Communication and Collaboration Tools covers the WebCT Email and Chat tools.  Learn how to utilize and customize the WebCT email system.  Additionally, discover how the Chat tool can assist with online office hours, topic communication as well as group collaborations.

WCTA 105: WebCT Course Administration: Managing Students

Without students, well what can you say?  Learn how students are added to your WebCT course manually or from files.  Learn how to manipulate columns in the Manage Students views.  Topics include adding and deleting students, changing column labels, sorting columns and working with the student listing select and query tools.

WCTA 110: WebCT Course Administration: Managing Student Grades

In this workshop you will learn how WebCT provides designer features that will allow you to manage grades online.  By using the Manage Students feature, you can release grades online to your students in a secure fashion, edit individual student records, enter grades manually or through a spreadsheet, perform statistics and other calculations.  The letter grade editor will also be covered.

WCTA 115: WebCT Course Administration: Tracking Content Use & Students

Using WebCT tracking tools view reports and information regarding course content and student participation in WebCT.  Track content pages in the course that have been accessed by students and the pages in which student spend the most time.  Additionally, track student activity as to which page they access, the time they first and last logged into WebCT, the amount of contribution to discussions and more.

WCTA 120: WebCT Course Administration: Course Cleanup

It's the end of the semester and you want to prepare your WebCT course for the next semester.  Learn some tips on how to clean up your course.  Topics will include, downloading student grades to a spreadsheet, compiling and deleting discussion content, removing students and more. 

WCTE 100: WebCT Evaluation Tools: Quizzes & Surveys

The evaluation tools in WebCT allow instructors to promote individual learning and provide immediate feedback so that students may gage how well they are doing in the course.  Designer skills for creating quiz/survey questions, adding a quiz/survey to a course and then releasing the quiz/survey to the students will be covered.

WCTE 105: WebCT Evaluation Tools: Self Tests

Learn how to create a single self test or multiple self tests in content modules to provide students with self learning opportunities.

WCTG 110: WebCT General Topics: File Management

Tired of uploading one file at a time?  Come and learn how  you can upload more than one file at a time using WebDAV technology.  Learn how to organize your files, compress and uncompress files and more within the WebCT Manage Files area.
