Finding Books & Course Reserves
Search for books
in the
online catalog shared by all University of Maryland
libraries. Follow these steps to have a book sent to
Shady Grove for you to pick up:
1.
Click on the title of the book you want.
2.
Look for the line that says "Location" and click on the link
that says "Availability."
3.
Click on the gold rectangle that says "request."
4.
Choose Salisbury University as your campus affiliation and log
in with your barcode number and last name.
5.
Select Shady Grove as the pick up location.
6.
Submit your request. You will receive an email when it's
ready to be picked up.
Search for reserve
readings in SU's
online catalog. You can search by course name or
number, instructor, title of the item, etc. You will need
the password from your instructor to access electronic reserves.
See this page for more information about
Course
Reserves.
Finding Articles & the Find It Button
Ask yourself if you need scholarly sources or popular sources
for your assignment. Many times, your professor will insist on
scholarly sources. What does that mean? Find out using this
comparison table
handout.
We have several databases you can
use to search for journal, magazine, or newspaper articles.
Some of them only give a citation to the article, and some have
the full-text. Here is a list of databases that are
good for articles about Respiratory Therapy:
CINAHL
CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health
Literature) covers over 1600 professional journals in nursing
and allied health. Also includes publications from the National
League for Nursing and the American Nurses' Association.
Health Source: Nursing Academic
Nearly 600 Scholarly full text titles covering nursing and
allied health, 450 of these are peer-reviewed titles about 400
more titles are indexed and abstracted
Proquest Nursing & Allied Health Source
A full-text resource providing access to scholarly research
in nursing and related fields. The collection consists of over
400 journals.
MEDLINE (EBSCO)
Provides abstracts and indexing using Medical Subject
Headings (MESH) for about 4,600 biomedical journals published in
the U.S. and 70 foreign countries.
ScienceDirect
Provides abstracts and indexing for more than 1800 journals.
Full text of more than 800 journals is available to USMAI
institutions.
Academic Search Complete
Provides abstracts and indexing for over 7,000 journals.
Full text of articles for over 4,000 scholarly publications,
including more than 3,100 peer-reviewed publications.
Web of Science
The ISI Web of Science provides seamless access to the
Science Citation Expanded®, Social Sciences Citation Index®, and
Arts & Humanities Citation Index™. It enables users to search
current and retrospective multidisciplinary information from
approximately 8,500 of the most prestigious, high
impact research journals in the world.
Citing your work
Plagiarism is not cool! Of course
you want to make sure you give proper credit to any source that
you use to write your papers, whether you directly quote or
paraphrase.
This guide helps students understand what
plagiarism is and how to avoid it.
Use
this guide to
help you cite your work, and remember librarians are good at
answering citation questions as well!
