  For industry information:

  • Click on the 'Advanced Search' tab at the top of the search page.
  • Use the pull-down menu and select 'Geographic Terms' and enter your country name
  • Enter your product or service in the second search box and click on the search button
  • When the results lists comes up click on industry profiles or trade publications

 

Gale Business Insights: Essentials  [10 seats shared with consortium]
 Provides  reports researched by leading stock analysts.  Off-campus, sign in using your Gull Card barcode and last name.  Choose Salisbury University as the campus and then click the log in button. 

  • Click on the 'Company' icon from the main screen.
     
  • Enter the company name or ticker symbol, choose 'ultimate parent', and click the 'search' button at the bottom of the screen.
     
  • Click your company name on the results list.
  • At the top of the screen are various tabs to company information--choose 'Investment Reports'.
  • Review reports which vary based on the investment firm.

This database provides full-text information about companies, industries, and the people who lead them.

Search Tips:

  • Use the Business News files for recent news articles on a particular company.
  • Use the Company Profiles on the Business menu to find directory and financial information by company name. Search various resources (such as Hoover's Company Reports and Standard & Poor's Corporate Descriptions) by changing the Source selection.
  • Search the U.S. Private Companies file in the Lexis-Nexis Academic Research Database.
     

Mergent/FIS Online (previously known as Moody's) [5 seats]
 Blackwell Library subscribes to the U.S. Company Data module which offers a wealth of detail on items including business description, history, property, subsidiaries, officers & directors, long-term debt and capital stock.  Off-campus, sign in using your Gull Card barcode and last name.  Choose Salisbury University as the campus and then click the log in button. 

  • Do a 'Basic Search' for the company name or ticker symbol.
     
  • Click on the company name on the next search screen.
     
  • Click on the various tabs across the top for detailed information (Company Details, Company Financials, EDGAR (SEC Documents), News, & Tear Sheets (Stock performance snapshot).

Morningstar
Morningstar's data reports cover more than 20,000 securities with historical data back to 1996.  Off-campus, sign in using your Gull Card barcode and last name.  Choose Salisbury University as the campus and then click the log in button. 

  • Under 'Reports', enter a company's ticker or name and click on 'Go'.
     
  • Click on the various links across the left of the screen for detailed information (Snapshot, Quote, Analyst Research, Morningstar Rating, Data Interpreter, Valuation Ratios, Financial Statements, Key Ratios, Charts, Dividends & Returns, SEC Filings, Owners & Estimates).
  • Remember to click on 'End Session' at the top right to exit program.

Statistics on population, income, age, race, education, employment for every zip code in the United States. Also includes purchasing potential for several categories of products or services such as apparel, footwear, groceries, furniture, and investments. Good source to use when trying to determine what the market and competition might be in a certain area.

Refer to the Company/Industry Index in the beginning of each volume.  Locate your company name (or a company similar to yours) to find the Industry Section.  Begin reviewing the 'Outlook' for your industry in the front of any of the volumes.  This will provide a snapshot of trends in the industry.  Next, go to the full profile for your industry. 

Each industry profile provides:  (1) Current Environment; (2) Industry Profile; (3) Industry Trends; (4) How the Industry Operates; (5) Key Industry Ratios and Trends; (6) How to Analyze A Company in the specific Industry; (7)  Industry References [periodicals, trade associations, & government agencies]; and (8) Comparative Company Analysis.
