Research Tips

Many of the databases we've paid for at SU have extra features that are designed to help you find the articles that you are looking for. Take the few extra seconds to look over all of the checkbox-type options on the various search screens - do they let you select 'Primary Sources' as a search result, etc?

Generating a good list of keywords is the first - and some would say most important - step in conducting your research.  Take the time to do this properly (!) and use the worksheet linked at the bottom of this page to come up with as many keywords and combinations as possible.

Keep track of what you've done and learn from your experiences! Research isn't just something that you 'do' - like most things in life it's something that you learn and practice before becoming an expert in it.
