Because information relevant to cultural anthropology may be
found in the literature of other disciplines, it is important to
use several databases that seem likely to contain your topic.
Some of the most useful databases include:
Humanities Abstracts - broad interdisciplinary overage of periodical
articles. The abstracts (article summaries) will help you decide whether
the article is suitable for anthropological research.
Social Sciences Abstracts - interdisciplinary, covering well-known
journals in sociology, psychology, and related fields including some
anthropology; especially useful for topics dealing with modern cultures.
Historical Abstracts
- covers the literature of European history with emphasis on the period from
1450 to the present; includes some archaeological and cultural studies.
America: History and Life -
covers the literature of United States and Canadian history from prehistoric
times to the present; includes some archaeological and cultural studies.
Academic Search/EBSCO - interdisciplinary coverage of both scholarly
journals and popular periodicals, including some newspapers. Provides full
text for several anthropological journals (see Periodicals for more
information).
PsychInfo
- covers the professional literature of psychology; contains some information
about cultural beliefs, customs and practices. Abstracts (article
summaries) will be helpful in determining which items are appropriate for
anthropological research.
