The state's academic libraries, like their institutions, are
committed to serving all Maryland residents. Sometimes, however, it can be
difficult to balance student and community interests. State support is now
less than a third of institutions' operating costs and universities invest
approximately $300 per student annually to provide library services.
In an effort to ensure wider access to library resources,
Salisbury University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore are partnering
with public libraries. This partnership expands the number of counties the
academic libraries serve and is designed to better meet the region's information
needs.
