Circulation: Policies
Fines
|
General Collection:
25
cents per day per item to a maximum of $7.50. After 30
days, the item will be presumed lost.
|
Reserves/Equipment:
Hourly:
$1.00 per hour per item up to a maximum of
$10.00.
Daily: $2.00 per day per item up to a maximum of
$20.00. After 30 days, the item will
be presumed lost.
|
|
iPads:
Daily: $10.00 per day up to a maximum of $50.00. After 5 days, the iPad will be presumed lost.
Lost or Damaged: $500.00 replacement fee for iPad, $50 replacement fee for charging cord and/or power adapter.
|
Lost Materials:
$35.00
replacement cost & $15.00 processing fee.
Note:
Replacement book(s) not accepted in lieu of replacement
cost(s).
Lost book payment reimbursements will only be made to patrons who
have had active accounts within the
previous five years.

Overdue Recalls:
$1.00 per item per day up to a maximum of $30.00.
After 30 days, the item will be presumed lost.
|
ILL Books:
Overdue fees
or material replacement costs charged by the lending
library. Both ILL
account and Circulation
account may be blocked until fees/costs are paid.

|
Loans from other USMAI Libraries
(PPH):
Fines are determined by the lending
library and must be paid directly to them.
|
Faculty are
responsible
for: Lost
Materials, Overdue Recalls (including those owned by
SU), ILL Books
and Loans from other USMAI Libraries.
Patrons
receive Blackwell Library circulation notices via e-mail:
Circulation notices
are automatically
delivered via e-mail to all library patrons. Library patrons are responsible
for being aware of library
policies and procedures, monitoring when items they borrow are
due
back to the library, and reading e-mail messages on a regular basis. Notices
are
delivered as a courtesy only.
Failure to receive an email does not release patron from his or her
responsibility to return items on time and
pay all accrued fines.
Mobile Device Policy
The following policies apply to the
circulation of mobile devices (including laptops, netbooks, and
iPads/tablets), and should be read and
thoroughly understood prior to checking out a device.
Borrowers:
- Devices can only be
checked out by SU Library primary patrons
including current students, faculty & staff.
- A current Gull Card
must be presented each time a device is checked
out.
- The Library reserves
the right to refuse service to anyone who abuses
equipment or is repeatedly late in returning
devices.
Availability & Time Limits:
- Laptops/Netbooks cannot be reserved ahead of time and are
checked out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Some iPads can be
reserved online at least 1 week in advance.
- Laptops/Netbooks can be checked out for
3 hours
and may be renewed.
iPads/Tablets can be checked out for 1 week and
may be renewed once.
- Laptops/Netbooks are for use in the library only and
cannot be taken out of the building.
iPads/Tablets may be taken out of the building.
- Devices must be checked in 30 minutes prior to
closing or 11:30 p.m.,
whichever is earlier.
Non-Circulating Materials
The following materials do not circulate outside of Blackwell Library:
- Accounting Reference Materials
- A-V Equipment
- Faculty Scholarship (Faculty Collection)
- Maryland Collection Materials
- Masters Degree Theses
- Microforms

- Journals/Magazines/Newspapers
- Rare Books
- Reference Materials
- SU Archive Materials
- Film Press Kits

Photocopiers
Public photocopiers are located on the first floor near the Circulation Desk.
- Black & white copies (.10 per page)
Faculty may ask at the Circulation Desk
for
their departmental copy card to be used at a
designated photocopier.
Recalls
Occasionally, materials are recalled. From the date of
the recall notice, borrowers have 14
days to return the
material. If materials are not returned by
the new recall date, special
recall fines will apply (see Fines
above).
Renewals
SU & Direct Borrowing
Renewals:
Most SU & Direct Borrowing
items may be renewed:
- through 'My Account' in the library catalog
- by phone - 410-543-6130
- at the Circulation Desk
NOTE: SU does not have a renewal limit, but other
USMAI libraries may have differing
limits on the number of times an item can be renewed.
Interlibrary
Loan Renewals:
Renewal requests should be made 5 days before the due date listed on the
sticker on
the cover of the ILL item. The lending library determines
whether or not to renew the
item. Requests should be made
by contacting the Interlibrary Loan Office by:
NOTE: ILL items cannot be renewed in 'My Account'
through the library's catalog.
Returns
To avoid fines, patrons
should return borrowed items by the due date indicated on the
date
due slip or recall notice.
Items can be returned
to the book
depository at the Circulation
Desk or
to the outside
depository at the front entrance. For
your convenience, return
receipts are available.
