The Doing Business in Latina America program runs for three weeks during the winter semester. Tentative dates for 2012 are January 3rd through January 22nd  and include 2 full weeks in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  The program is created by the Perdue School of Business, in collaboration with the Austral Group in Buenos Aires, to offer students an opportunity to experience Argentina’s fast changing economy and society.  You will have the opportunity to visit Buenos Aires, one of the most beautiful cities in Latin America. Located in the southern hemisphere, Argentina has a very warm and usually sunny month of January.

CLASS: BUAD 396: Business Studies Abroad - Doing Business in Latin America (3 credits). Study of the international aspects of business management and the environment of international business. This course focuses on the emerging markets in Latin America. It provides a balanced coverage of current business and political issues in these countries. The main objective is for the students to acquire a broad understanding of the way business is conducted in this part of the world. The course includes: analysis of the international business environment, case studies, guest speakers, and company’s visits -- the Volkswagen plan, the buenos aires Harbor terminal Zarate, the winmeake Bodegas Norton.   While in Buenos Aires, students will attend classes in the Austral Group Offices.  SU professors Dr. Oliver Roche and Dr. Corinne Pubill will co-teach BUAD 396.  Other time slots are reserved for guest speakers, cultural activities such as museum and city tours.  The course has no business prerequisites and is open to all students in any majors

EXCURSIONS:  In addition to formal classes, students visit businesses around Buenos Aires to learn first-hand how Business is done in Latin American.  Students will have free time during which they might organize their own visits to other cities such as Montevideo, Uruguay as well as other touristic areas such as the Iguazu Falls, Punta Del Este or Patagonia. Buenos Aires is one of the key members of Mercosur [Mercado Común del Sur] and is home to a number of multinational corporations, including, Peugeot Citroën Argentina, GlaxoSmithKline Argentina and Molinos Rio de la Plata to name just a few.

HOUSING:  Students stay at a business-class hotel conveniently located close to classes and with easy access to all that Buenos Aires has to offer.  All facilities have air conditioning, private bath, TV, and more.

HOST INSTITUTION:   The Austral Group was founded and is managed by MBAs who are passionate about helping our clients integrate academic content with travel.  We focus on providing a significant educational experience in Latin America with itineraries and formats that are customized to meet specific program needs and to enhance your program's curriculum.  The entire Austral team shares the fundamental belief that our study trips should not represent a short-term, one-off experience for students, but that each and every study tour should act as a platform for the development of business opportunities for participants.  For more about the Austral Group, LTD see their website.
