If you are reading this message, you
are already interested in the
English Language Institute (ELI). Before you make any decision
about whether or not to pursue your studies with us, I would
encourage you to ask yourself a couple of questions:
How do I want to
benefit from my ELI experience at SU? How can I maximize this
benefit?
The answers to these questions
can be found in the philosophy
that underlies our
curriculum design and instructional strategies:
We believe language is most effectively
acquired when you put it to use purposefully.
Moreover, the diverse needs of our learners and their various
learning styles are always at the very center of our curriculum
development and instruction design at the
SU ELI. This careful attention to each
individual student and applied approach are
clearly demonstrated in what we commit ourselves to:
Diversified curriculum designed to meet
the various needs of each learner,
including the ability to
communicate academically and socially with confidence;
Individualized instruction to suit
each learner’s learning style;
Ongoing support
through English
partners for each learner, who
then benefit from constant
language and cultural exchange with native English speakers
Integration of language studies with
each learner’s academic interest by both inviting academic
faculty members to give guest lectures in
the ELI and by allowing ELI
students to visit the classes in their
chosen majors.
If this kind of
personalized and applied ELI program sounds like the challenge
you are looking for, we welcome you
to apply to the ELI at Salisbury
University!
