Senior Lecturer, Sean Cooper
Mr. Sean Cooper graduated with an MA in TESOL from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2011. Prior to that, he spent four years in Japan teaching EFL at the elementary, junior high, and senior high levels. During that time, he pioneered an innovative English curriculum for elementary school students, the first of its kind in the region. Since returning to the United States, he has participated in a variety of ESL-oriented events, including long-term volunteer teaching to preliterate non-native speakers. Now at Salisbury University, he coordinates the Speaking curriculum of our English Language Institute. He is also involved in increasing international ties between our university and Japan, including teaching the first-ever Japanese language class at Salisbury University. Sean’s research interests include pedagogical phonology for East Asian L2 English speakers, intercultural competence for international students, and community-based language revitalization.

Chair & Sr. Lecturer, Susan Mahoney
Dr. Susan Mahoney holds a PhD in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching from the University of Arizona. She has taught all basic levels of French, English writing and reading for ELLs, and TESOL assessment & writing. Her research interests include L2 reading, writing & vocabulary, intercultural competence, study abroad, and assessment.

Senior Lecturer, Chandra Yesiltas
Ms. Chandra Yesiltas earned her M.A. in Applied Linguistics, with an emphasis in teaching English as a second language, from the University of Delaware. She earned her B.S. in psychology from Brigham Young University. Ms. Yesiltas has 8 years of experience teaching ESL courses such as history, pronunciation, reading, and academic writing at the high school, community college, and English Language Institute level.
Instructor, Jean Goblinger
Jean Goblinger obtained a bachelor's degree in English from Notre Dame College and a master's degree in Communications from the University of Akron. She has been teaching English as a second language for the past two years for the English Language Institute and is also an adjunct instructor for the Communications Department at Salisbury University. She is a bridge instructor for the ELI group, teaching native speakers to talk with confidence.

Instructor, Sandy Johnston
Ms. Sandy Johnston earned her M.A. in Composition and Rhetoric from Salisbury University, with additional graduate credits in TESOL, and a B.A. Communication/Journalism from Shippensburg University. She has taught technical writing and composition at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for the past 10 years. She also has taught writing workshops for international students to improve their writing skills.

Instructor, Caroline Porter-Long
Mrs. Caroline Porter-Long received a bachelor’s degree at the University of Mary Washington and a Master of Arts in English from Wake Forest University. She has taught Language Arts at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in Suffolk, Virginia, English grammar, composition and literature at Wor-Wic Community College, and Honors Critical Thinking and Writing at Salisbury University. She also worked as a research interviewer for Johns Hopkins University’s Wilmer Eye Institute.
