Semester in Dailan, China
Exchange with Dongbei
University of Finance and Economics (DUFE)
The Dongbei
University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) was founded in 1952
in the northern Chinese city of Dalian. As its name suggests,
DUFE is particularly well-known for its degrees in Business
and Economics. Like a public comprehensive university in the
United States, it offers majors in scores of disciplines
including law, the humanities, and social sciences. The
School for International Business (SIB) at DUFE was
established in 2002 to coordinate international education
initiatives for the university. Salisbury University joined
with SIB at DUFE in 2005 to offer a unique Chinese experience
for students in the Perdue School of Business.
SU/DUFE EXCHANGE: Each year
students from DUFE come to Salisbury University to study and
students from Salisbury travel to the SIB at DUFE. There is
currently one exchange slot available to an SU student at the
SIB at DUFE each year. Selection is competitive. Exchange
students pay the equivalent of full time tuition and fees to
their home institution and study tuition-free at their host
university. Additional fees include international airfare,
room and board, insurance, passport and visa fees, and
personal expenses.

courses each semester. These courses focus on different areas
concerning Chinese affairs. The course schedule is as follows:

CITY OF DALIAN: A bustling coastal
city of 5.6 million people, Dalian is the most important port
city in Northeast China. It is located on the Liaodong
Peninsula and is bordered by the Yellow Sea to the north.
Although Dalian can trace its heritage back nearly 6,000
years, it has only grown from a small seaside town to a major
metropolitan area within the past 100 years. It was occupied
by Russia and then the Soviet Union throughout the first half
of the twentieth century. This blending of cultures has left
its mark on Dalian’s culture and architecture. Now a
principal city in its region, Dalian features a cosmopolitan
culture of bars and restaurants, teahouses, clubs and
theaters. Just outside of town residents of Dalian enjoy
outdoor activities in the surrounding mountains, and water
sports on the local beaches. In 2000 Dalian was recognized by
the United Nations for its efforts as a “green” city for its
ongoing efforts to protect its local natural resources.
