The ISU program is especially intended for upper level bachelor degree students. All other students, researchers and teachers, working in the fields of politics, economics, culture and media who are interested in learning more about the topic and whowould liketo learn German from scratch or improve upon their German language skills are also cordially invited to participate. Running from July 20 - August 17, 2013 the International Summer University (ISU) offers a summer study programwith seminars in German and English on the main topic German language courses an extensive cultural program with weekend excursions, evening lectures, social activities and more

CLASS: Students take classes related to peace and Conflict as well as German classes appropriate to skill level (beginner to advanced). Courses include: Israel, Palestine and the Arab Spring The Arab Spring: Two Years On Responsibility to Protect: Iraq and Syria Popular Culture and the Revolution in Egypt Peace and Conflict from an Islamic Perspective

PROGRAM TRAVEL: As a part of the program trips will be taken to Frankfurt; Kassel; and Strasbourg, France.  More information is available on the ISU program travel website.

HOST INSTITUTION: Located in the heart of Germany, Marburg an der Lahn is a small, lively and safe medieval town with a long university tradition. The ISU location, university cafeteria and the romantic and picturesque old city with its castle, cafs, pubs, boutiques, as well as movie theatres, museums and theatres are all within walking distance. The ISU takes place at the University of Marburg, which was founded in 1527. With about 22,000 students and 8,000 staff members, it is one of Germany's medium-sized universities and recognized as a leading institution around the globe.

HOUSING: Students will have a single room in one of the university's residence halls. As Marburg has a historical centre with mostly small, traditional houses, there is little space to accommodate the large number of students right there. As such, residence halls are situated outside the centre and can easily be reached by local bus. In the room there is a washing facility, and there are common bathrooms, showers and a kitchen. You can also find laundry rooms in every dormitory building.

COSTS: Course Fee: 1900 Euros (Early bird: 1650 Euros until March 15, 2013) including: 2 seminars of your choice (20 hours each) Language course (36 hours) Study material Accommodation in a single room in one of our student dormitories Meal subsidy of EUR 50 Eveningevents Cultural program (weekend excursions, opening and closing party etc.) Costs not included in the program fee are travel expenses, meals and beverages, personal spending, refundable deposit for your dormitory room of EUR 100, payable on the arrival day.
