Current Student Testimonials

Currently, we have students from China, Korea, Gabon, Sudan, Saudi Arabia.  We have more applicants from Russia, Thailand, and South America. This mix of nationalities makes for increased opportunity to use English in all activities. Most of the students in the ELI are studying English in order to enter a college or university in the United States. Many ELI students are temporarily away from their jobs, studying English to improve their job performance. Here are some of their testimonials about their experience at SU ELI:

“People are friendly, very nice. Love the campus.”

“The way of teaching is very understandable – they use good ways to explain the topics.”

“It [the class] is a long time, but we forget the time passes. The teaching is really good.”

“[The class] builds up our confidence.”

“I’ve taken English in other schools. But I think this is the best. I want to go on to undergraduate here.”

“I like the teaching materials.”

“[We] feel unified – we can discuss in one group, get to know each other, feel we are close.”

“I think it’s been really helpful. We’ve learned a lot. In one week we learned so much – vocabulary, grammar, presentation.”

“[This is] what we needed – communication, social presentation.”

“The teachers want us to succeed, do our best – spending so much time – he [Dr. Song] will do his best to see us succeed.”

Welcome!

The fact that you are reading this message indicates that you are already interested in the English Language Institute (ELI). Before you make any decision about whether or not to pursue your studies with us, I would encourage you to ask yourself a couple of questions: How do I want to benefit from my ELI experience at SU? How can I maximize this benefit?

The answers to these questions can be found in the philosophy that underlies our curriculum design and instructional strategies:

We believe language is most effectively acquired when you put it to use purposefully. Moreover, the diverse needs of our learners and their various learning styles are always at the very center of our curriculum development and instruction design at the SU ELI. This careful attention to each individual student and applied approach are clearly demonstrated in what we commit ourselves to:

  • Diversified curriculum designed to meet the various needs of each learner, including the ability to communicate academically and socially with confidence;
  • Ongoing support by helping students mingle with native English language speakers in order for students to benefit from constant language and cultural exchange with native English speakers
  • Integration of language studies with each learner’s academic interest by providing language acquisition courses in the academic areas which are taught either by SU academic faculty members or professionals who are specially trained in the field.
  • Individualized tutoring services provided to students who need more assistance with language acquisition.

If this kind of personalized and applied ELI program sounds like the challenge you are looking for, we welcome you to apply to the ELI at Salisbury University!
