Director's Welcome

If you are reading this message, it means you have interest in the programs we are offering at the Salisbury University English Language Institute (SU ELI). Before you make any decision about whether or not to pursue your studies with us, I would encourage you to ask yourself a couple of questions: what do I want to benefit from my ELI experience at SU? How can I maximize this benefit?

The answers to these questions can be found in the following philosophy which underlies our curriculum design and instructional strategies:

We believe language is most effectively acquired when you put it to use purposefully. Based on this philosophy, the diverse needs of our learners and their various learning styles are always at the very center of our curriculum development and instruction design at SU ELI. This uniqueness is clearly demonstrated in what we commit ourselves to:

  • Diversified curriculum design to meet with the various needs of each learner which includes ability to communicate academically and socially with confidence
  • Individualized instruction to suit each learner’s learning style
  • Ongoing support opportunities via providing English partners for each learner who can benefit from constant language and cultural exchange with native English speakers
  • Integration of language studies with each learner’s academic interest by both inviting academic faculty members to teach elective classes and providing learners the chance to integrate academic classes with their ELI program

Again, welcome to ELI at Salisbury University!

Dr.Sam Song
English Language Institute Director
