Another Successful SAP TERP10 Certification Course Offered

Winter 2016 TERP10

The third SAP TERP10 (Integration of Business Processes in SAP ERP) certification course was offered through the Information and Decision Sciences Department from January 4-15 by Drs. Karen Papke-Shields and Kathie Wright.  All participants were successful and are now SAP Certified Associates, the entry-level consulting certification from SAP. Such success is external validation of these participants’ understanding of the steps, the information flows and the accounting implications (both financial and managerial) of the numerous processes addressed in the course:

  • Order-to-cash
  • Procure-to-pay
  • Manufacturing planning and execution
  • Project systems
  • Human capital management
  • Enterprise asset management

As in the past, the class met daily for two weeks from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with the certification exam on the last day. The “twist” this time was in the participants:

  • Seven SU undergraduate students (seniors or just graduated in December)
    • Daniel Allen
    • Savannah D’Aurora
    • Mamadou Diallo
    • Jill Fawley
    • Christopher Kittelberger
    • Rebekah Rodriguez
    • Nicholas Waters
    • One SU M.B.A. student – Christen Butler
    • Five faculty members from Delaware State University (DSU)
      • Chittibabu Govindarajulu, associate professor of information systems
      • DaeRyong Kim, professor of information systems
      • Lynda Murray-Jackson, associate dean for research and analytics
      • Praveen Pinjani, associate professor of information systems
      • Bernadette Ruf, professor of accounting

This was the first time one of our M.B.A. students attempted the certification after having completed several courses in the M.B.A. program using SAP ERP to understand business processes, IS, accounting and CRM concepts – and what a great way to start what we hope becomes more commonplace.  The seven undergraduates included students majoring in information systems, accounting or interdisciplinary studies and/or minoring in accounting or enterprise information systems, all of whom had successfully completed the two ERP-focused courses in information systems.

The five faculty members from DSU are involved in Project Propel, an initiative by SAP, the Americas’ SAP Users’ Group (ASUG) and DSU to support SAP efforts, such as what we have done at SU, at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  We are thrilled to be able to help our colleagues at DSU as they begin their work on this initiative and look forward to being able to do so in the future, as well.

After a grueling two weeks of class, these participants demonstrated their understanding of many of the different business processes supported by SAP ERP.  And what an outstanding demonstration it was.
