Health Education Major - Requirements

Health education students must meet the following requirements (in addition to the general education requirements) prior to Internship II:

Complete the following health education core courses with a grade of "C" or better:

BIOL 205 Fundamentals of Human Anatomy & Physiology 4 credits
HLTH 110 Foundations of Health Ed 3 credits 
HLTH 120 Consumer Health & Safety 3 credits 
HLTH 317 Nutrition 4 credits 
HLTH 225 Health Behavior 3 credits 
HLTH 230 Chronic & communicable Disease 3 credits
HLTH 240 Drug Education 3 credits 
HLTH 311 Human Sexuality Education 3 credits 
HLTH 325 Planning & Assessing Health Ed Programs 3 credits
HLTH 401 Community Health 3 credits 
     

Internship I

To be eligible for admission to Internship II, all health education majors must complete the following Internship I courses with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and with grades of "C" or better:

EDUC 318  Computers in Education 3 credits
      OR    
EDUC 319 Technology in Education 1 credit
EDUC 416 Classroom Management 3 credits
HLTH 360 School Health & Reading Methods I 3 credits 
     
SCED 367 Inclusive Instruction for Secondary Teachers 3 credits
HLTH 360 School Health & Reading Methods I 3 credits 
HLTH 461 School Health & Reading Methods II  3 credits 

PROFESSIONAL SEMESTER - Internship II

A student is eligible for the professional semester after he/she:
a) Completes all major core courses with a "C" or better
b) Completes methods courses with a minimum 2.75 GPA
c) Has a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
d) Submits two (2) positive recommendation from faculty in health and physical
     education and the faculty advisor
e) Obtains verification of requirements completed from the director of field  
    
experiences

HLTH 470 Internship I in Health Education 6 credits  (S)
HLTH 471 Internship II in Health Education 6 credits  (S)
EDUC 433 Reflection & Inquiry in Teaching Practice 3 credits  (S)
PRAXIS II Score of 630 required to graduate
