Class of 2019

Joshua T. James

Hometown: Milford, DE
Alma Mater: University of Maryland Eastern Shore
Undergraduate Degree: Clinical Exercise Science/Kinesiology
I chose Athletic Training because I have been an athlete my entire life and I love sports. Being that I no longer play sports, becoming an athletic trainer gives me the ability to still be around competitive athletes. This time, I get to serve as an advocate for serious athletes and help them to stay injury free and/or play a huge role in their rehabilitation.

Donald Mathis

After serving as a medical corpsman in the Navy, I decided I wanted to go back to school to pursue a career as a medical professional. I chose Athletic Training because of my love of sports and exercise. I also have a passion for patient care and medicine and look forward to a career that combines all of these elements.

Frank Mayo

I have been an athlete and around sports my whole life. From being a wrestler in high school as well as playing baseball and football, to playing D2 baseball at Pace, sports have been my life. Pair that with my everygrowing interest and fascination with healthcare and how the human body works, and your left with a no brainer choice of pursuing a career in Athletic Training.

Chakayla Middleton

I chose athletic training as a career because I have a strong desire to help people and I love sports. Being able to say I play a part in helping an athlete succeed is the greatest feeling in the world.

Lauren Whetzel

Being an athlete most of my life, I have learned to understand the importance of athletic trainers. The amount of trust and faith that is given to an athletic trainer is amazing to me. I want to be able to help athletes get back to the sport that they love in the quickest and safest manor.

Kelsey Catterton
Hometown: Owings, MD
Alma Mater: University of Maryland, College Park
Undergraduate Degree: Kinesiology
I decided on Athletic Training as a career because I love sports and wanted to stay involved even after I couldn't play anymore.  I was injured numerous times playing sports growing up and was always very interested in the different treatments, exercises, and modalities I was given.  I want to be able to give the same amazing care I received as an athlete to future athletes.
Silvana Cespedes
Hometown: LaGrange, IL
Alma Mater: University of Illinois at Chicago
Undergraduate Degree: Kinesiology
Being a former athlete myself, I love being in an athletic environment.  In high school, I was part of the student athletic trainers club and after just a few months, I knew that Athletic Training was what I wanted to do.  My passion lies in the relationships formed with athletes/teams and being part of their journey.
Ashley Zajac

Hometown: Brookeville, MD
Alma Mater: University of Maryland, College Park
Undergraduate Degree: Kinesiology
I was a student athletic trainer with the University of Maryland Athletics in the Varsity Team House with men's and women's soccer, baseball, men's lacrosse, and track and field.  While there, I went to two Final Fours and two National Championship games with the men's lacrosse team.  Because of my experiences there, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in Athletic Training.
