Carrie was nominated by Associate Registrar, Jamie Holmes-Kriger for her willingness to go above and beyond typical duties and expectations to ensure students’ needs are met. The nomination states, “Carrie has become a great asset to the UMUC/SU SOWK program. She is someone that we can rely on and always comes through.” The nomination explains how Carrie volunteered to help set up new processes for the “teach out” program and willingly spent hours on the phone updating courses and enrolling students for the class so they could start their pre-class work immediately. In a letter of support, Co-Chair of Social Work, Dr. Deborah Mathews and Interim Dean, Dr. Kelly Fiala explain that SU was approached by UMUC in an emergency manner to provide a safety net for a group of military students already in a program, only months away from graduation, who were left stranded when another institution unexpectedly pulled out of their collaborative agreement with UMUC. SU agreed to provide the final months of their education. Carrie agreed to take on additional duties and has supported the initiative without an infrastructure to connect with on the UMUC side. In closing, the letter of support states, “we are proud of Carrie who has worked diligently and often blindly to make it possible for these students to move relatively seamlessly from one institution to another and to earn their education degree. Carrie has worked tirelessly on their behalf and has truly gone above and beyond what is found in her job description.”
