Assistant Professor of Community Health - Faculty Position (11133)

The Department of Health and Sport Sciences at Salisbury University is accepting applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor position in Community Health.

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: Teach online, hybrid and on campus undergraduate courses within the Community Health program. Courses may include but are not limited to community health, planning and assessing health education programs, program research and evaluation, health behavior, chronic and communicable diseases, public health education, prevention methods, nutrition and human performance, and epidemiology. Participate in curriculum planning, development and implementation including evaluation of the Community Health program. Advise undergraduate students in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences. Assist with internship coordination and supervision. Assist with advising Community Health’s registered student organization-Community Health Education Club (CHEC). Conduct on-going research in area of expertise and disseminate findings. Engage in scholarly and interdisciplinary activities including publications, presentations, professional development, and community service. Participate in service activities at University, School and Department levels. Actively participate in shared governance.

Minimum Qualifications: Earned research doctorate degree in health education, health promotion, public health (or closely related field) from an accredited institution. ABD applicants will be considered for hire at the rank of Instructor, with the requirement that candidate complete the doctoral degree within one year of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with a Master of Public Health (MPH) and/or teaching experience in epidemiology and program research and evaluation at the undergraduate level preferred. Knowledge of health education core competencies as defined by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) and mastery in roles and responsibilities related to the field. Applicants with Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) credentials preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level with knowledge and experience using diverse instructional methods and new technologies including online, hybrid and distance learning. Strong record of service and experience supporting student led programs/activities. Experience with undergraduate academic advising. Demonstrated ability to coordinate undergraduate internships in Community Health and interface with community partners. Record of scholarly/research accomplishments. Demonstrated ability to develop interdisciplinary research/scholarly activities that support the Community Health program and greater community. Evidence of scholarship productivity including grant writing and ability to obtain external funding. Ability to successfully interact harmoniously with colleagues, staff and students within a multicultural environment.
