The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Salisbury University is accepting applications for the position of Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Mathematics.
Area of Specialization: Mathematics or Statistics
The primary job duties for this position are teaching, advising students, scholarship, serving on committees, and working with other faculty in professional collaboration. The normal teaching load is 12 hours (3-4 courses) per semester. Undergraduate research and the preparation of future teachers are priorities of the department, and the successful candidate should be committed to these principles. The candidate should also be able to utilize effective teaching and classroom management strategies which enhance the success of diverse learners. The department offers a Masters in Mathematics Education and undergraduate tracks in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Math Secondary Education, and Computational Mathematical Sciences, in addition to the Traditional (pure) and Applied Mathematics options. Candidates should be able to contribute to several of these areas. Preference will be given to candidates whose areas of expertise complement those of the existing faculty. Potential specializations include combinatorics, graph theory, or geometry.
Minimum Qualifications: A Doctorate in Mathematics or Statistics is required. Candidates must posses the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Candidates must have a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly development, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education and a willingness to teach a broad range of introductory mathematics courses as well as possess an ability to contribute to mid- and upper-level offerings for majors and to effectively use mathematical software at all levels of the curriculum. Candidates are expected to be enthusiastic and effective contributors to a learning environment with increasingly diverse participants.
