Student-Scholar profile: Katherine Potvin
Katherine Potvin is being considered for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Mongolia. A senior from Salisbury, she is pursuing a bachelor’s in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), with a K-12 certification. She applied to teach in Mongolia – a country that she first learned about as a six-year-old child – as it builds its educational policy as a relatively young democracy, independent from Russia and China. She also wanted to see curriculums that other countries use and gain practical experience outside the American school system for my own career as an ESOL teacher. At SU, in addition to Honors, she is a member of the Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement’s Presidential Citizen Scholar Program and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She also serves through Americorps (ShoreCorps/PALS) at Wicomico Public Library locations. After the Fulbright, her next goal is to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail.
