Homecoming 2010 will be remembered for soaring spirits and
fun-filled events throughout the week. Popular activities
included the alumni golf tournament, faculty emeriti and retired
staff luncheon, and SGA’s “This Is Why I Squawk” Spirit Week
celebrations. Five Alumni— Sherry Esposito Stick (’00, cross country and track
and field), Amy Fenzel-Mergott (’95, M’01, basketball and
soccer), Joe High and Chris Turner (’00, men’s lacrosse), and
Ben Madarang (’00, tennis)—were inducted into the Athletics Hall
of Fame. The football team defeated Huntingdon (AL) College,
45-21, at Sea Gull Stadium, giving Coach Sherman Wood his 100th
win. The SGA block party at the adjacent intramural fields
included everything from inflatables for the kids to an ROTC
pushup contest. Other SU teams posting wins over the weekend on
campus included field hockey, men’s soccer and volleyball. That
afternoon and evening, alumni graduating in years ending in 0
and 5 celebrated milestone reunions. Jayme Block, interim director of alumni relations and gift
development at SU, said: "Overall, it was a fantastic weekend.
The weather could not have been better, and it was great to see
the various decades of alumni represented at all of the events.
I appreciate the support of our alumni volunteers, the campus
community and, of course, the Sea Gulls who flocked home to
their Maryland University of National Distinction." |
