Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority/Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport Summer Internship

The Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority / Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (VCSFA/MARS) is seeking college students enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree program to participate in a 12 week summer internship at Wallops Island, Virginia.  Internships are offered based on funding and availability.  The internships run from approximately the middle of May to the middle of August.  Resumes will be accepted until March 3, 2017.  For consideration, please submit a resume and a one page cover letter by email to human.resources@vaspace.org

 Application Instructions and Selection Criteria

  • State your citizenship.  U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • State if you are a permanent resident of Virginia, Maryland or Delaware. (Mid-Atlantic area residents have preference.)
  • State your degree program.  Students enrolled in applicable hard science degrees have preference.
  • State how many years of college you will have completed as of May 2017.  Students entering their senior year have preference.
  • Include in your resume your current GPA, relevant course work and relevant experience.
  • Indicate if you have Federal Security Clearance. Background check will be verified

Internship Job Descriptions

Students who are selected for the internship will be matched as closely as possible with duties that are applicable to their degree and career goals.  The exact job description will vary based on launch schedules and other company missions.

Areas of specialty in Engineering for our 2017 session are as follows:

Aerospace/Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic with Computer Science/Civil/Structural/Construction

Duties will entail some or all of the following types of work:

  • Launch Vehicle mission planning
  • Launch Vehicle mission support
  • Facility post-launch inspection, testing & repair
  • Launch Pad Systems Walk-down
    • Electrical System (Power Distribution and Systems Engineering)
    • Hydraulic System
    • Communications and Video
    • Environmental Control System (ECS)
    • Water Deluge System (WDS)
    • Liquid Fuel Systems (LFF)
    • Structures & Grounds
    • Safety and Quality Control
  • Document Control
  • Meetings
  • Other projects as assigned
