American Physical Society Minority
Scholarship
DEADLINE:
February 1, 2013
Any African-American, Hispanic American, or Native American U.S.
citizen or permanent resident who is majoring or planning to
major in physics, and who is a high school senior, college
freshman, or sophomore is eligible to apply for the scholarship.
Engineering physics and applied physics majors also welcome to
apply.
Award
The award consists of $2000 per year for new minority scholars,
and $3000 per year for renewal students to be used for tuition,
room & board, and educational materials. In addition, each
student is paired with both a local mentor at their institution,
and an APS mentor. These physicist mentors provide support and
assistance to the students as they navigate their education and
plan for future careers.

Application Requirements
You will need to create an APS account and apply for an APS
Minority Scholarship online. You must fill out all five parts of
the online application and have all of the required
documentation sent to our office. Incomplete application
packages will not be considered. The final application should
include:

One completed online student application form with personal
statement.

Two completed reference forms in sealed envelopes with
reference's signature across the seal, or the form may be
scanned and emailed to our office from the reference's
institutional email account. At least one of the references must
be from a science or math teacher/professor. For renewal
students, both references must be from math or science
professors

Current, official transcripts in sealed envelopes with
registrar's stamp or seal across envelope's seal

High school senior: cumulative high school
transcripts

College freshmen: high school and college
transcripts.

College sophomores: college transcripts.

Academic aptitude test scores (SAT, ACT) sent directly to the
APS Office. The Educational Testing Service code for sending SAT
scores to APS is 0634; the ACT code for the APS is 2675.
