Discontinuation of Email for Life Program - 4/30/14

Summary: Microsoft no longer offers email to students who have graduated or have separated from the University for more than 1 year, starting April 30, 2014.

Dear Campus Community;

In 2010, SU entered into an agreement with Microsoft, called Live@EDU to provide email for SU students. One of the features of Live@Edu was “eMail for Life”. This feature allowed students to retain their email addresses after graduating from Salisbury University. This past summer however, Microsoft discontinued their Live@Edu program and migrated all users to their new Office 365 platform. The Office 365 platform no longer provides a mechanism for students to maintain their address after graduating. Over the last 3 months we have been evaluating our options and have come to the conclusion that we will no longer be able to offer “eMail for Life” to former students.

We regret not being able provide a workable and sustainable workaround for Microsoft’s decision. We recognize that the address may be some students’ primary email address and, therefore, is likely registered with multiple online services. For that reason we will continue to leave students’ email account active for a period of time to enable them to migrate online services to a different email address. This information has been communicated to current students as well as recent graduates. Reminder email messages will be sent 2 weeks prior to any account being disabled.

Our current policy is to maintain student email accounts for up to 1 year from graduation. Students who have graduated or have separated from the University for more than 1 year will have until April 30th 2014, to make other arrangements. On April 30th 2014 their accounts will be disabled.

We do apologize for this inconvenience due to Microsoft’s decision. Salisbury University and the Alumni Association would like to stay in contact with former students to celebrate their many successes and to keep them updated on all the great accomplishments and events that will routinely occur on campus. Please encourage alumni and future graduates to go to to provide the best e-mail address to stay connected.
