Welcome to your brand new mailbox.
In May 2010, all students moved to a brand new mail system by
Microsoft called Live@Edu. We're very excited about this change, and feel that
students will be too, as it upgrades and adds new features to the service
students already receive.
- Outlook Live gives you a 10 GB mailbox, and can send and
receive attachments up to 20MB.
- Features like shared calendars, drag and drop messages, and
conversation view
- Windows Live Messenger instant messaging program right from
your email
- Ability to connect your email to your Windows Mobile, iPhone
or Blackberry smartphone
- Ability to check your email with other email programs.
- Microsoft Office Live Workspace allows you to share and
collaborate on documents online.
- Windows Live SkyDrive gives you 7 GB of storage space, and
unlike your current P drive is available anywhere you can access
the internet.
- Windows LiveSpaces gives you a place for group discussions,
linking to docs in your SkyDrive, blogging, and more.
- Windows Live Writer is your own blogging application.
- Ability to connect with your friends on LinkedIn or Facebook
- New! Windows Live Mesh allows you to sync
and access your files virtually anywhere (Windows Vista and
Windows 7 only).
So why did we move to this instead of keeping the old system? The old
system is just that: old. And it was unable to meet many of the requests and
demands that our students have asked for, like being able to use it with their
cell phones, more space, more integration with other systems, etc. Live@Edu was
the overall best value of all of our options.
For new students, your live@edu account will be created on or before
orientation, or once you receive the information via regular mail for those who
register too late for orientation. Once you get that information, your account
will be ready for you to use. In order to do that, you'll need to do a few
things to set it up the first time you use it.
- For starters, you'll need to reset your password to sync
your mailbox with your SU account. To do that, just visit the
mypassword page and set a new password with the "forgot
my password" link.
- Next, log into your email at the
Live@Edu
site using your full email address (username@gulls.salisbury.edu)
as your LiveID.
That's it. You can now use your mailbox and other features of the Live@Edu
site. You can find out information about those services on the tabs above.
Other things to note with your new email.
- Forgot My Password doesn't work on the login screen.
Because your email uses your Active Directory account, the
Forgot Password link on the live@edu login page (or anywhere
else in Outlook Web for that matter) doesn't work. Even if
you're somehow able to use it to change your password for your
email, it won't sync back to Active Directory; so you'll need to
change it again to login to the computer, check myClasses, etc.
Instead, use the MyPassword page at
http://mypassword.salisbury.edu whenever you need to change
your password or have forgotten your password and need a new
one.
- Outlook Web doesn't like older browsers.
Actually, most of the Live site and features need newer browsers
to use it, so if you're rattling about on an old browser it may
be time to update to a newer version. It's a good idea anyway;
newer versions work with more websites, and are more secure than
older browsers.
Outlook Live
Is your password not working for Outlook?
If you're still a current student, then you can change your password at
http://mypassword.salisbury.edu.
If you're an alumni, then you'll want to use the "Forgot my password" link on
the Outlook login page itself. You'll need to set it up following these instructions.
Do you need assistance?
For assistance with your Active Directory username or password, call or email

Keep Your 25GB SkyDrive - Limited Time Loyalty Offer
April 24, 2012. Microsoft is now reporting that it is reducing the free
storage capacity of its SkyDrive service to 7GB, down from 25GB. But as a part
of a limited time promotion, existing SkyDrive users (which include matriculated
students as of Spring 2012, alumni for life accounts as of Spring 2012, and
Hotmail and Live.com users) are able to keep their 25GB storage for free.
Prior to upgrading, when you log into you SkyDrive account, you will see in
the left hand side that you have 7GB of storage. Accounts eligible for this
upgrade will see the following banner when logging into your SkyDrive.

Clicking the banner (or choosing Manage Storage from the left menu) will
bring you to your Storage Plans. You will be prompted for a Free Storage
Upgrade. Click the Free upgrade! button to upgrade your account.

Once upgraded, you will receive the following confirmation. You will also
notice your storage size has changed to 25GB, up from 7GB.

For more information on this limited time loyalty offer, visit
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/skydrive/loyalty.
SkyDrive Apps
SkyDrive also has apps available for download on your computer and mobile
devices. PCs running Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Macintosh OS X can download an
application for their computer, and iOS and Windows Phone devices can get an app
for their devices as well.
There is no application for Android at this time, nor is there an application
for Windows XP (if you do attempt to install the program on Windows XP, you will
receive an error that the program is not a valid Windows 32 program.).
Fortunately, you can still access SkyDrive from your browser on non-supported
operating systems and devices.
For more information, visit

Windows Live Mesh
Windows Live Mesh allows Windows Vista and Windows 7 users to use their
SkyDrive to automatically sync their files and access them virtually anywhere.

Using your Live@Edu mail with other programs/devices
To set up your mail for use with other devices, you'll need to get some
information first.
- Incoming Server
- This will be m.outlook.com
- Email Account Name
- This will be your
username@gulls.salisbury.edu
- Username and Password
- The username is your network username
(without the @gulls.salisbury.edu). You can set
your password at
http://mypassword.salisbury.edu if you don't
know it.
- The Apple iPhone running software version 3.0 requires you
to use an alternate server name.
- To find that server name, sign in to your
account at the following address:
https://pod51000.outlook.com/owa/. After you
sign in successfully, the address you entered
will resolve to an address that contains the
server name you need to use. For example, if the
address resolves to
https://pod51005.outlook.com/owa, enter
pod51005.outlook.com for your server name.
Now you should be ready to set up your devices and programs.
You might want to try the
E-Mail Setup Help
Wizard first. It gives you a step by step walkthrough to help you set up
your connection how you want to connect. Or, you can use the guides below.
Please note that these instructions are provided as a courtesy only.
SU and Information Technology does not support student e-mail delivery or issues
on these programs or devices. Only the official live@edu website is
supported.
Also remember: If you set up your email on your devices, you'll need
to remember to change the password on your device when it expires too.
Otherwise, your device may end up locking you out.
Devices
*Note that most devices and programs will only allow one account to connect
via Exchange. You can connect multiple POP3 or IMAP accounts.
Blackberry Setup Trick
Depending upon your setup and your service provider, your Blackberry may not
give you the ability to edit the information needed to set it up using their
instructions. This is because on some setups, it uses your username (without the
guills.salisbury.edu) and sets up gulls.salisbury.edu as the email server.
Unfortunately, it won't let you edit the username, so trying to switch it using
the directions provided above won't work.
Instead, you have to trick your Blackberry into letting you put in the values
at setup. To do this, first, delete your gulls.salisbury.edu email address out
of your phone if you've previously tried to set it up.
Next, go to your Email settings, choose add a new email account, and put in
some gibberish@outlook.com as the
email address, and some more gibberish as the password. What you're trying to do
is get the Email setup to fail to automatically find your settings. After about
three long tries, it returns a red error message stating something like "The
email address or password is incorrect, or we need more details. Retype the
information or provide additional settings." That's what you want to see. Click
"provide additional settings."
Then choose POP/IMAP and click Next.
Now you can replace the gibberish email address and password with your email
address and password, put in the email server as found in the above instructions
for your phone, and put in your username (full email address
@gulls.salisbury.edu) and hit Next. That should get your email address set up in
those phones that give you limited access to settings.
Other Programs
Checking Other Email using Live@Edu
In addition to being able to set up your email account on other devices, you
can also use Outlook to check your other email addresses, like gmail, yahoo, or
aol mail.
