Gullnet Help

Before using GullNet, you should make sure that your computer is compatible. To prep your computer for GullNet, do the following.

  • Start Internet Explorer. (Other browsers may work, but are unsupported, so you use them at your own risk. We recommend Internet Explorer with PeopleSoft based web-applications such as GullNet.)
  • Make sure you are using the correct version and cipher strength by clicking on Help and About Internet Explorer. The version should be 6.0 service pack 2 or better (would look something like 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633 or similar). Cipher strength should be 128-bit. Click OK to close the window.
  • Close Internet Explorer.
  • Open the Control Panel (usually Start>Settings>Control Panel or Start>Control Panel). Double-Click Internet Options control panel.

    • Under the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, Delete Cookies and Delete Files.
    • Under the Security tab, set the settings to Default (Medium).
    • Under the Privacy tab, set the settings to Default (Medium).
    • Click OK
  • Also, make sure that you have Java installed on your computer. It doesn't always install with Windows, because of legal issues, so you may have to download it.

  • GullNet relies on popups on some of its pages. Turn off or disable any pop-up killers when using GullNet, or set your program to allow popups on the domain salisbury.edu. Refer to the Help files, documentation or product's website for information on how to do that.
  • Also be aware that third party products, such as Yahoo! Toolbar, may affect GullNet. If you experience difficulties, try turning off any third party browser enhancements or other software, especially software related to the Internet and networking, such as firewall software.

For the Macintosh, if you experience problems, verify that the current date is not set to 1901. Often when you flash the pram or make other settings changes, the date will reset to the factory default: 1901. This causes problems when the security setting is set to a date later than the date on your computer (i.e., the security setting is for 2004 and your computer thinks it's 1901).
