Your SU E-mail combines utilities for electronic
mail, time management, and task delegation in one software package.
SU E-mail provides not only
e-mail capabilities, but you can also share calendars, documents and folders
among a group of
email account holders, grant and receive proxy
access to other accounts, take control of your mailbox through Rules, Junk Mail
filters and other controls, and manage your contacts and maintain a to-do list
and other checklists.
E-mail is accessible on all Windows
based campus computers owned by Salisbury University, including all
of our Information Technology labs. It is also accessible by
non-Windows based computers and from off-campus users through the
web through
WebAccess.
All faculty, staff, and students who are taking at least one
class have an SU account created for them.
The
e-mail
account shares its password with their Network and
myClasses@SU accounts.
General Information
E-mail accounts are automatically
generated through network student accounts, faculty/staff accounts
or student organization accounts. Use of SU
E-mail is subject to the SU Email Policy and SU Acceptable
Use Policy.
Accessing SU E-mail
SU E-mail is available in all IT
Computer Labs and on the desktop of each faculty/staff networked
computer. Additionally,
SU E-mail may be accessed through
WebAccess using a web browser
(i.e.. Internet Explorer or Firefox).
Finally, you may set up your email to be viewed on
a smartphone, tablet or laptop.
For information on how to use email
visit our FAQ and
Quick Reference Guide pages.
E-mail Password
The Network and SU
E-mail passwords are the same. Contact the
IT Help Desk,
TETC 113, if you have problems with your
Network password.
Also remember: If you set up your email on your smartphone, tablet or
laptop, you'll need to remember to change the password on your device when it
expires too. Otherwise, your device may end up locking you out.
E-mail Address and Internet Addressing
Your Internet e-mail address will be your network username
followed by @salisbury.edu. Some examples are:
Student Internet E-mail address (for students who applied
before June 1, 2010):
ab12345@gulls.salisbury.edu
Student Internet E-mail address (for students who applied after June
1, 2010):
bwhite5@gulls.salisbury.edu Faculty/Staff Internet E-mail
address: scgull@salisbury.edu
Here are some suggested guidelines to use when choosing your password. Your
password should be at least eight characters with at least one number. Choose
something easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess, like your
birthday plus your favorite pet's name. Memorize your password rather than
writing it down on a sticky note. By doing this you protect yourself as well the
security of our University systems.
Changing your passwords ....

and are in a secure environment where you aren't worried about people seeing
your answers, you can uncheck "hide answers" to only enter each answer once,
without confirmation.
The Password Self Service page will open. Here you will see if there were
any problems with your account that may have caused your old password not to
work. This is purely for your information.

Faculty
and Staff email
All faculty and staff receive a Salisbury email address as part of their SU
contract. This account is created when the contract is received by HR or
Payroll, as detailed by the
Account Creation Process.
The email address will be
username@salisbury.edu, where "username" is the username provided to you at
the time of account creation. To login to your SU email, you will need your
username and your network (Active Directory) password.
Your email will remain active for as long as you remain under contract with
SU. Contingent faculty are given a 9 month grace period before their accounts
are disabled.
Your email mailbox stores 2 gigabytes of unarchived mail, and automatically
archives mail older than 90 days for most mail (mail over 3MB will be archived
after 30 days). Your mailbox can also send or receive mail with attachments of
up to 20 MB.
Your office computer will be loaded with Microsoft Outlook (or Microsoft
Entourage for Mac users) which will be set up to be used with your SU email
account. You will also be able to access your email through any of the lab
computers or non-SU computers, both on and off campus, through
Outlook WebAccess. Outlook WebAccess,
when used with the latest version of Internet Explorer, provides nearly
identical function to the desktop version. If you do not have Internet Explorer
available, other browsers may be used with the "light" version of Outlook
WebAccess. This version performs many of the same functions as the desktop
programs and Outlook WebAccess, but does not provide the full suite of options
available.

Faculty/Staff email page for Faqs, walkthroughs, Quick Reference Guides and
much more..
Student Email
All students receive an SU email address to serve as their primary email for
communication with the University. This email address, provided as part of the
Live@Edu service, will use the same username as your Network account, and will
sync with your Network password for as long as you remain a student at SU. Once
you graduate (or otherwise leave the university), you will be able to keep this
address indefinitely as long as you log in once every nine months to keep it
active.
Your email address provides you with 10 gigabytes of mailbox space, a shared
calendar, contacts and collaboration tools, mobile phone and mail program
availability, and integration with the Faculty/Staff directory on Exchange. Your
email address is also automatically subscribed to the Campus-Bulletin-Digest
(our daily classifieds mailer) and populated to the appropriate class lists.
Your email is also your source for retrieving your
GullNet password, should you ever
need to reset it.
Student email is only one part of the full Live@Edu offering. For more
information, check out the Live@Edu website.
Alumni
Accounts
Alumni are able to retain their SU email address (gulls.salisbury.edu)
indefinitely, as long as it's being used. All you need to do is keep your
account active, which means that you log into it at least once every 90 days.
Accounts that go dormant (inactive for 90 days or more) are automatically
removed, and cannot be recovered or reactivated.
Once you graduate, your network account is disabled, and no longer syncs with
your SU email address. At that time, if you need to change your password, you
will need to use the Forgot Password link on the Live@Edu login page. This will
only work if you've already set up your security settings, so you'll want to do
that prior to graduation or leaving the university at the
Account Page at Live@Edu.At the very least, you should set up an alternative email address,
a security question, and be sure to put in your Mobile Phone number (without it
you may not be able to
manually unblock your account).
(Note: do not use or set up the Password Reset Information on the Live@Edu page
until you are no longer a student at the University. Using the Forgot Password
link on the Live@Edu
login page will not change your password if you are a current student, nor will
it sync with your Network account. This information applies ONLY to graduated or
former students.)
Also, once you graduate, all support for your email converts to the Windows
Live website, and most assistance is provided through Microsoft (just as with their
Hotmail service).
Alumni whose email account had been deleted prior to the changeover to
Live@Edu, or those who never had an email address, can request an alumni email
account through the
Alumni Association.
Email Security
We're often tempted to think that our email is private,
and that communications within our emails are kept between the sender and the
recipient. However, in reality email is more like a postcard, and information
contained in the email is difficult at best to keep confidential. Not only is it
not secure and confidential, but often times it is easily manipulated to fool or
deceive the recipient.
Below are some tips and
suggestions on how to keep your correspondence and email
as secure as possible.
Be very wary of attachments.
Simply knowing the sender isn't
enough these days to guarantee that an attachment is
safe. Some viruses replicate themselves by sending
copies of themselves through email, either coming
directly from the senders email address, or more often
by "spoofing" an email address by masking its true
identity and sending itself through a public or unsecure
mail server. Still others are sent simply because the
sender isn't aware the file is infected, or isn't as
vigilant as they should be on scanning their computer
for viruses and keeping their virus scan software up to
date.
Of course, we also do want to
recieve attachments from time to time, so use the
following tips when you receive an attachment.
