Program and Admission Information
The Medical Lab Science Program is accredited by the
National Accrediting Agency for
Clinical Laboratory Sciences. It consists of two years of
pre-requisite on-campus course work followed by three semesters
of on-campus upper division professional courses and then one
winter semester and one spring semester of off-site clinical
internships in regional hospitals. Internships begin the first
week of January the semester prior to graduation and last for
approximately 20 weeks. Students are
responsible for all costs related to internships including
transportation, meals and housing. Due to course
sequencing, students must begin the upper division program in
the fall semester only.
Students should declare a major in Medical Laboratory
Science (MLS) early in their academic careers to assure
appropriate advisement. Enrollment in the MLS Program is a
two-step admission process including:
- admission to Salisbury University and
- a separate competitive admission process to the upper
division program.
Students cannot be considered for admission to the MLS
Program until they are admitted to the University. Admission to
Salisbury University does not guarantee acceptance to the upper
division program. Students completing admission requirements
must then be accepted by the MLS Program Admission Committee in
order to begin the upper division program. Space in the upper
division program is limited each year, so students should seek
advising early and submit applications prior to the March 1
deadline for fall admission. Complete information
on the entire admissions process can be found in the MLS Program
Admissions Policy, a link for which can be found below.
Advanced standing may be given to medical laboratory
technicians. In general, transfer credit and credit for clinical
experiences will be given to applicants who are completing or
have completed an accredited medical laboratory technician (MLT)
program. Applicants who have completed a program a year or more
prior to application should be able to provide evidence of
national certification. Since each MLT program is different,
credentials will be evaluated on an individual basis.
