Alcohol & Other Drug Education Program Offers The Following
Resources to Students
A one-hour Community Responsibility class.
Students who have a first-time on-campus or off-campus alcohol violation or who
need basic information regarding the impact of their use on others are referred
into a class that focuses on decision-making, awareness of the impact of alcohol
use on the community, and legal, financial and other consequences of use.
Referrals can come from the university’s judicial board, residence life, the
office of the State’s Attorney, lawyers, or self-referrals from students.
Program for Session I
A three hour Alcohol and other Drug Education Class.
The Wellness Coordinator works with the local state’s attorney office, campus
judicial officers and others to provide education for students who have received
alcohol citations or more advanced violations related to alcohol or drug use in
on or off-campus settings. Other students who receive referrals from coaches,
faculty, or other sources can participate in this program which outlines risk
factors for addiction, progression of use, information on blood alcohol levels,
negative consequences of a variety of drugs, peer pressure and campus climate
issues and referral resources.
Program for
Sessions II and III
DUI/Advanced Offenders Class. This six session class is geared toward the
needs of the abusive and/or dependent user. Strategies for self-identifying
abusive behavior patterns, triggers and the need to curtail drinking or using
are the focus of this six-session program. Discussions regarding treatment
myths, counseling support, strategies for reducing or ceasing drinking/using are
implemented. Skills for managing social, legal, financial and other stressors
are taught. Students are exposed to the principles of twelve step programs and
are engaged in goal setting and implementation of an individual development
program related to their abuse. Referrals for related resources are provided
(career services, job and community service sources, etc…)

Referral and Resource Program.
Students interfacing with alcohol or other drug issues can be referred from any
source (Health Services, campus judicial system, faculty, parent) or self-refer
and receive an appointment to be informally assessed and obtain information
regarding off-campus resources including: treatment programs, 12 step programs,
and individual counseling. The Wellness Coordinator works closely with on-campus
departments, especially Student Health Services and the Counseling Center, to
engage students in counseling or other support services, as needed.
