New STD Screening for Men NOW AVAILABLE!
***** NO MORE "Q-TIPS!!" *****
A newer technology which is more accurate, convenient and comfortable is available now at Student Health Services.
The new test eliminates urethral swabs for our male students.
The new test requires a urine sample only. It is important for the student to have not emptied their bladder
for at least an hour before the sample is collected.
The urine sample will screen for the two most common bacterial STDs in the United States, Chlamydia and gonorrhea.
It is important to be screened for these tests periodically because infections can be present without any symptoms.
As many as 50% of men and 75% of women who have Chlamydia never have symptoms! If detected early enough, these can
be successfully treated and cured. If an infection is present but not detected, they can lead to problems
(such as infertility, painful pelvic infections, or scarring) which may become permanent, as well as being able to spread the
infection to any future partners.
The cost of the screening remains low at $15. Allow 40 minutes for your scheduled appointment. If you chose, you may also be
screened for HIV and syphilis, which requires a blood sample, and would be an additional $5. Please specify the reason for your
visit, whether you are having the urine test, blood test, or both, when you call so that the appropriate time will be allotted.
