Often described as a journey, an ongoing experience takes place within the cognitive records of the individual mind and can be recorded through media. The result is a filtered translation that is limited to the physical characteristics of the media and the physical reception of the individual. Experiences are received through the senses and interpreted by the conscious and unconscious mind. The senses can overwhelm the conscious mind, so they become a filtered experience. Some aspects of these experiences go beyond this. Emotional experiences and the transcendental, spiritual or otherwise “extra-sensory” are received and recalled in their own unique ways.

One’s perception goes beyond the just the senses and includes previous experiences and their results. The journey is expressed and continues when creating something that has no practical use, but has a cognitive value. This “something” is a work of art. It goes beyond practicality and has a human connection that is universal and individual. The personal connection to an experience and the medium used is a vehicle in the journey.

Painting for me is an active participation: it has its own language and is a physical and spiritual process. It is part of my individual, human journey. What results is a communication between the medium, memory and deeply personal experience. The act of painting is a series of experiences that are their own journey, which is in juxtaposition with the physical journey of living and the spiritual journey of being. Painting can transcend practicality and become a communication between the inner and outer world. For me, it completes a circuit and enables me to know and understand myself, my spirituality as well as the physical world in a way that I otherwise could not.
